Abstract: The use of IP networks is nowadays the de-facto way to telecommunicate information. As IP networks become more and more content-centric, in order to preserve the quality of traffic, operators need not only to continue to invest in infrastructure and bandwidth but also to develop intelligent networking techniques to reduce bandwidth consumption. Caching popular content at the edge of the network is one of such techniques. In this paper, we use YouTube to evaluate the performance of a number of popularity prediction techniques in terms of hit success rate.
