Abstract: Conventional Fourier transform profilometry (FTP) suffers from spectrum overlapping arising from ambient light, surface reflectivity and system nonlinearity. In this paper, we propose a binary coding strategy to address the problem. First, we decompose a grayscale FTP pattern into a serial of binary patterns; second, we project the binary patterns onto a target and image the corresponding patterned scenes; and finally, we reconstruct an FTP image from the captured binary images. Compared with conventional FTP, the proposed strategy is immune to spectrum overlapping and, hence, achieves more accurate 3-D results. Experimental results verify the validity of the proposed method.
