Abstract: Highlights•Limited research is available regarding which DAAs should interrupt the providers workflow when ordering medications.•DAA overrides for penicillins and cephalosporins were evaluated for patients at two large health systems.•We redesigned DAAs by a new tiered alerting system based on patient factors, allergic reaction type and reaction severity.•Our recommendations would result in cutting interruptive penicillin and cephalosporin DAAs each by 30%.
