Context-adaptive and QoS-guaranteed flow scheduling optimization in multipath multimedia transmission over MPTCP
Abstract: This paper presents a context-adaptive QoS optimization solution designed for Multipath-TCP (MPTCP) control layer, in multimedia transmission environment. To improve the QoS of multimedia transmission, we jointly consider path scheduler of MPTCP to reduce congestion based on context metrics and a global QoS guarantee approach adjusting tunable context metrics under the analysis of the relationship between QoS metrics and contexts. Then we simulate the shared bottleneck experiment, compare the performance of the algorithm we proposed with existing algorithms, and verify the good performance of our algorithm in improving the throughput while ensuring the flow fairness. Our approach is different from traditional congestion control algorithm based on packet loss, and it tells whether the packet loss is due to congestion or other reasons, adjusting the congestion window size more adaptively.
