KangaiSet: A Dataset for Visual Emotion Recognition on Manga

Abstract: This paper presents KangaiSet, a dataset for facial emotion recognition on Manga. This dataset is based on the japanese manga books available in the Manga109 dataset and focuses on visual aspects. While faces are considered as the main emotional information carrier, artists employ various graphic cues through the panels to highlight different aspects of a character’s emotional states. Consequently, for each face image, pictures corresponding to the character’s body and the whole panel are also included so they can be studied simultaneously.
