Local Lagrangian reduced-order modeling for the Rayleigh-Taylor instability by solution manifold decomposition
Abstract: Highlights•We develop nonlinear reduced order models for Rayleigh-Taylor instability in compressible gas with varying Atwood number.•We introduce a general indicator-based framework for decomposing the solution manifold and localizing reduced order models.•We compare two practical approaches, namely using time and penetration distance as physics-based indicator in the framework.•We exploit the Lagrangian frame for instantaneous evaluation of penetration distance to achieve good speed-up.•We present outstanding numerical examples which are reproducible with open-source softwares libROM and Laghos.
