TL;DR: This study explores a typologically motivated transformation of Universal Dependencies (UD), highlighting its empirical implications and impact on diverse languages.
Abstract: Universal Dependencies (UD) is a global initiative to create a standardized annotation for the dependency syntax of human languages. Addressing its deviation from typological principles, this study presents an empirical investigation of a typologically motivated transformation of UD proposed by William Croft. Our findings underscore the significance of the modifications across diverse languages, shedding light on the advantages and limitations of the transformations.
