Abstract: Highlights•Concentrations of glutamate ​+ ​glutamine and GABA ​+ ​are correlated in a large cohort (N ​= ​220).•Acquisition site, demographics, and data quality do not explain the relationship.•Controlling for the concentration of NAA and Cr diminished the correlation.•Suggests that regional metabolism may mediate this relationship.
