Abstract: The paper deals with ethnic and language identity of Moravians within the whole Czech language community, as it appears in the light of results of cense in 1991, 2001 and 2011. Author points out the subjective and political background of emancipation tendencies among Moravians and he tries to classify the rather naive attempts concerning the defining and standardisation of Moravian language, different from the Czech language. On the other hand, the author considers the Moravian separatist tendencies to be a result of more common tendency in Czech ethnic and language awareness. This common tendency manifests itself in non-declaring of any ethnic affiliation in census (it concerns 25.32 % of inhabitants of Czech Republic in census 2011).
